Big hits in The Hundred, record-breaking speed on the track, a teenage tennis sensation, and a legendary return to the international stage.

Zak Crawley smashed an unbeaten 67 to lead the Northern Superchargers to victory, Dina Asher-Smith stormed to the 200m title with a championship record, and 18-year-old Victoria Mboko stunned the tennis world with a Canadian Open triumph. Meanwhile, Brazilian icon Marta came out of retirement to inspire her country to Copa America Femenina glory in dramatic fashion.

Dina Asher-Smith

British sprinter

The three-time Olympic medallist won the 200m title at the UK Athletic Championships this week with an incredible photo finish win over Amy Hunt, while setting a new championship record with a time of 22.14 seconds.

Marta

Brazillian football icon

Widely regarded as the best female player of all time, Marta came out of international retirement to inspire her side in the defence of their Copa America Femenina title. 3-2 down to Colombia in the final, the 39-year-old came off the bench to score an absolute rocket before sneaking her side in front in extra time, eventually winning on penalties in a dramatic final. Not a bad way to cap off an already impeccable international career.

Zak Crawley

Northern Superchargers opening batter

With The Hundred getting underway this week, many wondered how some of the Test team players would perform. Zak Crawley answered all those questions in style. An unbeaten 67 from just 38 balls led his side to an emphatic eight-wicker win over the Welsh Fire.

Victoria Mboko

Canadian tennis player

18-year-old Mboko took the tennis world by storm, securing the Canadian Open title with a final victory against Naomi Osaka. That came at the end of a run that included a win over Coco Gauff, too. She has risen from outside the top 300 at the start of 2025, to now being projected to jump up to 24th in the world ahead of the U.S Open later this month.

Inactivity is quietly draining our economy, health system and communities. Sport England’s latest research is a wake-up call: equal access to sport and exercise could unlock £20 billion in savings and productivity gains for the UK. That’s not just a health issue, it’s an economic imperative. The data is compelling: For every £1 invested in grassroots sport, £4.38 is returned in savings and benefits. Grassroots sport contributes £36 billion annually to the economy and generates £14 billion in tax revenue. Yet inequalities persist. Those with disabilities, lower incomes, and black communities remain the least active. At New Reach, we believe the solution is clear: movement. Sport isn’t just about participation; it’s about inclusion, opportunity, and impact. Every mile run, every game played, every community initiative matters, not just for health, but for economic resilience and social cohesion. As the government prepares its Budget, the questions are: How do we make sport accessible for everyone? How do we turn participation into a national priority? Because the cost of doing nothing is too high. At New Reach, we help brands, rights holders, and organisations turn this challenge into opportunity. Through strategic PR, creative campaigns, and partnerships, we amplify the benefits of sport - driving participation, tackling inequalities, and delivering measurable impact for communities and the economy.
