The 32 year old Welshman secured his first career title at the 2026 Championship League after beating David Gilbert 3-2 in the final. Jones, who was runner up at the 2024 World Snooker Championship, ended a 16 year wait for a title after first turning professional in 2010. Jak was modest after his victory, saying: “My parents have spent 15 years watching me lose, so it's nice to win one for them.” A cool £33,000 in the back pocket for him too!

Arsenal's starboy notched a World Cup hat trick to bring the tournament to a close with a 6-4 win over France. More goals in World Cup knockouts than a certain number seven, and he joins Kane, Lineker and Hurst as the only English men's players to achieve the feat. Despite playing through a season drastically impacted by his hamstring barely holding on, he's still better than your favourite winger.

The New Zealander secured a surprise 100-1 victory at the Open Championship. Seven strokes behind after the opening round, Fox made the largest comeback from his position after 36 holes at a major championship in history. Ryan is a fantastic example of why you should not always bet on the rankings, becoming the lowest ranked Open Champion since 2011 winner Darren Clarke.

Record breaking runner
Kerr smashed the men’s mile world record, which had stood for 27 years, at the London Diamond League as he crossed the finish line in 3 minutes and 42.66 seconds. Cheered on by 60,000 supporters, Kerr beat the existing record by nearly half a second and became the first British athlete to hold the record since Steve Cram in 1985.
