Team of the Week - 13.02.26

Sport has a funny way of keeping you hooked… just when you think it’s over.

Leicester v Southampton was pure EFL chaos, a three nil half time deficit flipped into a 4-3 win with a last minute Shea Charles strike. Alex Oxlade Chamberlain marked his Celtic debut with a late winner, Aamilah Aswat made history as the first black female British jump jockey to win a UK race and 17 year old Choi Ga-on soared to Olympic snowboard halfpipe gold with a fearless final run.

Moments. Milestones. Magic.

Leicester v Southampton

The ultimate comeback

The EFL’s TikTok account played the highlights of this game with the simple but powerful caption “This is why you should watch the EFL!” And they are absolutely right. As a Southampton fan, worn down over the years, when I saw we were 3-0 down at half time, I had no hope. 3-1 at 80 minutes, still no hope. But the next 16 minutes brought sheer joy as the mighty Saints came from 3-0 down to win 3-4 thanks to a last-minute Shea Charles winner. Scenes!

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Celtic's newest hero

The Ox joined Celtic on a free last weekend and hit the ground running with a lovely last-minute effort to secure all three points for the Scottish giants. It was his first outing since May having left Besiktas in the summer. Could we see him have a late career renaissance under Martin O'Neill? Time will tell, but a Scottish Premiership title would look lovely on the mantelpiece next to the three FA Cups he won with Arsenal.

Choi Ga-on

Snowboarding Prodigy

The 17 year old stunned the world by claiming Olympic gold in the women’s snowboard halfpipe, overcoming a dramatic early crash and delivering a stunning final run that earned a winning score of 90.25. Her victory came at the expense of two-time Olympic champion Chloe Kim, whom she outscored in the last round to take the top spot on the podium. Choi’s performance not only marked a breakthrough moment in her career but also delivered her nation’s first Olympic gold medal in snow sports.

Aamilah Aswat

History-making jockey

Last week, 20-year-old Aamilah Aswat became the first black female British jump jockey to win a UK horse race, less than three months after she became the first female British jump jockey to compete in a race in the UK. Now, Aamilah has her sights set on racing in the Grand National, as she seeks to make further history in the sport.
