Team of the Week - 16.01.26

This Team of the Week is all about records being broken, taken and smashed.

Eilish McColgan is winning on and off the track with her European 10km record and Media Voice of the Year award at the Running Industry Awards. Kevin Durant has added yet another milestone, becoming the seventh-highest scorer in NBA history at 37. At the other end of the spectrum, 23-year-old Arthur Fery is just getting started as he prepares to compete at the Australian Open.

The Women’s T20 World Cup has been on our radar since it was announced, and with record ticket sales, it’s shaping up to be a world-class tournament.

Arthur Fery

Australian Open qualifier

World number 185, Arthur Fery has reached the main draw for the Australian Open after beating an opponent 58 places above him in the wold rankings. The 23 year old secured his first major match win at Wimbledon last year by beating 20th seed Alexei Popyrin but hasn’t won another match after two further attempts at Wimbledon. The French born tennis player, who represents Great Britain, is now set to go up against 20th seed Flavio Cobolli in round one. Good luck, Arthur.

Kevin Durant

Two-time NBA champion

The Slim Reaper added another feat to his NBA career this week, passing the late great Wilt Chamberlain on the all-time scoring list thanks to his 30 points against the Blazers. KD's 31,435 career points means he is now seventh all-time with the 37-year-old continuing to star at the top level.

Eilish McColgan

Women’s European 10km record holder

Eilish McColgan, who recently won Media Voice of the Year at the recent Running Industry Awards, has added another success by reclaiming the European 10km record in a time of 30:07. McColgan had held the record for over three years after setting a time of 30:19 in 2022 until Belgian Jana van Lent beat that record on 4 January 2026. A dominant reign for the European record holder.

Women’s T20 World Cup

Record ticket sales

More than 100,000 tickets have already been sold for the Women’s T20 World Cup. This total has already surpassed the sales of the 2017 tournament, with 5 months to go until the tournament kicks off on 12 June. England will be hoping to avenge some World Cup demons having failed to reach the final at any of the last three T20 World cups whilst India will be looking to go back to back. Whatever the result, it shows the significant growth in women’s cricket.
