Team of the Week - 27.02.26

Another week in sport that reminds us why it reaches far beyond the final whistle.

Noni Madueke, Alessia Russo and Alex Scott backed Arsenal’s No More Red campaign in honour of Tashan Daniel, Megan Keith set a new European women’s 10k record in Spain, Harry Brook’s century guided England to a T20 World Cup semi final, and Dick Advocaat stepped away from Curaçao to put family first.

Noni Madueke, Alex Scott and Alessia Russo

Arsenal tackling knife crime

Following the fatal stabbing of Arsenal fan Tashan Daniel, England and Arsenal forwards Noni Madueke and Alessia Russo, alongside former Arsenal international Alex Scott, joined a walk in honour of Tashan, backing Arsenal’s push to tackle knife crime. The walk was part of the fifth year of Arsenal’s No More Red campaign, in partnership with Adidas, that is attempting to tackle the root causes of youth violence in London.

Megan Keith

Long distance runner

Keith has set a new European women's 10k record knocking one second off of fellow Scot, Eilish McColgan's, previous record. Competing in Spain, Keith crossed the line in 30 minutes and 7 seconds. The record has changed hands a few times recently, at one point only lasting seven days, having previously been McColgan's for 3 years. Keith will be hoping to hold on to the record as long as she can with an ever-improving chasing pack behind her.

Dick Advocaat

Former Curaçao manager

Advocaat and Curaçao stunned the footballing world earlier this year by qualifying for the 2026 men’s World Cup. However, this week the former Rangers manager has chosen to step down from his managerial role due to his daughter’s ill health. Whilst many sports fans think their team or nation winning is a matter of life and death, some things are simply bigger than a game of football.

Harry Brook

England batter leading England to the semis

At the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka, England captain Harry Brook’s century drove England to the semi-finals, securing a two-wicket victory over Pakistan. Moving himself up the order, following Phil Salt’s early dismissal, the strategy worked for the England skipper, hitting 10 fours and four sixes to score an exact hundred in a chase of 165. Shout out to Hampshire and England bowler Liam Dawson, who is in fine form, taking three wickets and a stunning catch.
