Team of the Week - 17.04.26

Big wins, historic firsts and defining moments headline this week’s Team of the Week.

Rory McIlroy claimed another Masters title, Marie-Louise Eta made history as the first female manager in one of Europe’s top five leagues, Viktor Axelsen stepped away from the sport as one of badminton’s all time greats, and Gout Gout set a new benchmark for the next generation of sprinting talent.

Rory McIlroy

Masters champion

There’s no way Rory wasn’t featuring in this week’s Team of the Week, and I nabbed the absolute legend. He’s become only the fourth man to retain the Masters, and the smile on his face, clad in his Masters Green Jacket was a sight to behold. And it was gripping golf, a great watch and very exciting to follow.

Gout Gout

Future world's fastest man?

The 18-year-old Australian can genuinely claim to be faster than Usain Bolt. That's pretty cool. He ran 200m in 19.67 seconds, faster than Bolt's 19.93 at the same age back in 2004. That time also set a new u-20 world record, adding to his already held record time for a 16-year-old. The world of athletics has an exciting decade ahead. Will Bolt's records genuinely come under threat? Only time will tell.

Viktor Axelsen

Badminton legend

Two time Olympic champion and former world number one Viktor Axelsen has retired at 32 due to ongoing back issues. One of the most decorated players in badminton history, he leaves the sport having achieved everything he set out to do, describing it as more than a career, but his life.

Marie-Louise Eta

Union Berlin head coach

In a very significant, and long overdue, moment for sport, Marie-Louise Eta has been put in charge of Bundesliga side Union Berlin. This means that the German becomes the first female appointed to manage a men's team in one of Europe's top five leagues.
