Team of the Week - 07.11.25

Records broken, history made and one very smug Team of the Week selection.

Michelle Agyemang backed up an early season prediction with a Golden Girl Award, Jamie Melham made Melbourne Cup history, Scotland dominated in style, and Eliud Kipchoge just keeps proving why he’s the GOAT.

Scotland rugby

Historic win over USA

What better preparation for Gregor Townsend’s men as they prepare to face New Zealand this weekend, with an outstanding 85-0 victory over the USA. Yes, America is not known for its rugby dominance, but certainly no-one was expecting such a commanding win for the Scots. The 85-0 scoreline was the biggest ever win at Murrayfield in 100 years of history at the ground, and their third-biggest win of all-time.

Eliud Kipchoge

Veteran long distance runner

Regarded by many as the greatest marathon runner ever, Kipchoge earned the prestigious Six Star Medal when he completed the New York City Marathon on Sunday, at 40-years-old. The medal, created in 2016, honours runners who have completed the original Abbott World Marathon Majors. Rumours are that he will now be moving on from marathon running, you'd think to get some rest, but the icon teased that he hopes to take on a running challenge in Antarctica, so maybe not.

Michelle Agyemang

England’s rising star… again

Michelle Agyemang recently won the 2025 European Golden Girl Award after a great season on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion and with England. However, this Team of the Week pick is a selfish one because back in April, my first ever Team of the Week pick was… Michelle Agyemang. A moment of genius from myself. If anyone needs the lottery numbers, you know where I am.

Jamie Melham

Jockey enjoys moment ‘better than her wedding’

Jamie Melham celebrated a brilliant double win in the Lexus Melbourne Cup, not only becoming only the second ever woman jockey to win it, also beating her husband Ben in the process. Riding the 8-1 shot Half Yours to victory, after the race she said: "“It’s tough and not all glorious and perfect as everyone can see sometimes but I’ve had an amazing year, I’ve got married but nothing compares to this feeling."

Inactivity is quietly draining our economy, health system and communities. Sport England’s latest research is a wake-up call: equal access to sport and exercise could unlock £20 billion in savings and productivity gains for the UK. That’s not just a health issue, it’s an economic imperative. The data is compelling: For every £1 invested in grassroots sport, £4.38 is returned in savings and benefits. Grassroots sport contributes £36 billion annually to the economy and generates £14 billion in tax revenue. Yet inequalities persist. Those with disabilities, lower incomes, and black communities remain the least active. At New Reach, we believe the solution is clear: movement. Sport isn’t just about participation; it’s about inclusion, opportunity, and impact. Every mile run, every game played, every community initiative matters, not just for health, but for economic resilience and social cohesion. As the government prepares its Budget, the questions are: How do we make sport accessible for everyone? How do we turn participation into a national priority? Because the cost of doing nothing is too high. At New Reach, we help brands, rights holders, and organisations turn this challenge into opportunity. Through strategic PR, creative campaigns, and partnerships, we amplify the benefits of sport - driving participation, tackling inequalities, and delivering measurable impact for communities and the economy.
