Team of the Week - 20.06.25

JJ Spaun and Bath Rugby both secured huge wins this week. For Bath, it was a win on and off the pitch, announcing a three-year contract extension for Finn Russell. Mimi Rhodes continues her heroic debut season on the Women’s PGA Tour, and Mondo Duplantis is doing what only Mondo Duplantis can.

Bath Rugby

Premiership champions

Someone had to pick them, and as the resident rugby nause, the honour fell to me. Fair play Bath, really well deserved, and what a way to end their 29-year wait for the league title. To cap it off, Scottish sensation Finn Russell has signed a new contract this week. What a season for the club, also winning the European Challenge Cup and Premiership Rugby Cup.

Mondo Duplantis

Swedish Pole Vaulter

Not for the first time, Mondo is my pick. Last time, it was for breaking the pole vault world record for an 11th time. Now, he's done it again and he's done it in front of his home crowd for the first time ever. Magical stuff from a man who is edging closer and closer to the GOAT across all sports conversation.

JJ Spaun

US Open champion

JJ Spaun may have thought his US Open chances were over after bogeying his first six holes on Sunday. However, a dramatic 64-foot birdie on the 72nd hole sealed the deal, earning him his first major title by two shots and a cool $4.3 million payday.

Mimi Rhodes

English golfer

After three wins in her debut Ladies European Tour season, it’s an exciting week for Mimi Rhodes who is making her major debut at this week’s KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in Frisco, Texas. The 23-year-old from Bath, is enjoying a strong start to her professional career, and will tee off with the world’s best players after receiving a special invitation to compete for a record prize fund of £9m.

Inactivity is quietly draining our economy, health system and communities. Sport England’s latest research is a wake-up call: equal access to sport and exercise could unlock £20 billion in savings and productivity gains for the UK. That’s not just a health issue, it’s an economic imperative. The data is compelling: For every £1 invested in grassroots sport, £4.38 is returned in savings and benefits. Grassroots sport contributes £36 billion annually to the economy and generates £14 billion in tax revenue. Yet inequalities persist. Those with disabilities, lower incomes, and black communities remain the least active. At New Reach, we believe the solution is clear: movement. Sport isn’t just about participation; it’s about inclusion, opportunity, and impact. Every mile run, every game played, every community initiative matters, not just for health, but for economic resilience and social cohesion. As the government prepares its Budget, the questions are: How do we make sport accessible for everyone? How do we turn participation into a national priority? Because the cost of doing nothing is too high. At New Reach, we help brands, rights holders, and organisations turn this challenge into opportunity. Through strategic PR, creative campaigns, and partnerships, we amplify the benefits of sport - driving participation, tackling inequalities, and delivering measurable impact for communities and the economy.
