Shocking the Americans to win the WBC

Despite a star-studded USA team, the underdogs powered through, as Venezuela claimed the World Baseball Classic (WBC) for the first time. In a thrilling final, Venezuela won 3-2, stunning the baseball world, with Team USA fully expected to bring home the silverware. Eugenio Suárez, Venezuela's third baseman, said: "Nobody believed in Venezuela but now we win the championship today. This is a celebration for all the Venezuelan country."

Max Dowman

Youngest ever Premier League goalscorer

What a moment for the 16-year-old. Scoring at the Emirates is impressive in any setting but this was just on another level. He didn't get pity minutes. He came on with Arsenal in the middle of a title race, needing a win, and was the most impactful player on the pitch. He sent in the cross for the first, scored the second and becomes part of Arsenal folklore just like that - no matter what happens for the rest of the season. But, if they do finally get the title over the line, there's a very good chance the history books view this as the league winning moment.

Sporting CP

Portuguese remontada

After losing their Champions League first leg against Bodø/Glimt 3-0, Sporting CP could have effectively written their campaign off for another year. However, three goals in normal time, followed by goals in the 92nd and 121st minutes, secured one of the greatest comebacks in European history. Sporting don’t get much of a break, with a quarter-final fixture against Arsenal waiting in just under a month’s time. With Tottenham’s exit from the Champions League, I’ve just found my new team to support. Come on the Lions!

Tom Pidcock

Winner of the Milano-Torino cycling race

What a way to win your first ever Milano-Torino race, on the 150th anniversary of the first edition of the world's oldest classic. Making his debut in the Italian one-day race, the 26-year-old Olympic mountain biking champion became only the second British rider to clinch the victory, after Mark Cavendish in 2022.
