Team of the Week - 04.07.25

Unsurprisingly we've got the Euros and Wimbledon front and centre, with Sam sticking to his passion for American sports, and Ellis ditches his Spurs pride to pick young Myles.

We also want to take a moment to send our thoughts and prayers to the family and loved ones of Diogo Jota and his brother after the devastating accident this week. May they rest in peace.

Gemma Grainger

The 'English Norwegian'

Howay Norway – the football manager from the north-east of England creating something special at the Euros. Gemma Grainger is the only English manager at the UEFA Women’s European Championships, but as manager of Norway. The former England assistant and Wales head coach , who also managed Leeds and Middlesbrough, enjoyed early success in the tournament, with a 2-1 win over Iceland in the opening game.

Cooper Flagg

No.1 Pick in NBA Draft

Flagg was selected as the first overall pick in this year's NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks. He becomes the second-youngest No.1 pick ever, just eight days older than, guess who, LeBron James. The Mavs earned the first pick with a 1.8% chance in the lottery, just months after trading away Luka in that bombshell trade with the Lakers.

Myles Lewis-Skelly

Arsenal and England left back

What a player this boy is. After a breakout year that saw him lock down the left back role at Arsenal, score a crucial goal against Man City AND score on his England debut - he has been rewarded with a well-deserved new contract. He's got the world at his feet, a generational talent, Arsenal and England starter at just 18. Wow. I'd pay for a ticket just to watch this lad play.

Sonay Kartal

English tennis player

Kartal has been one of the stories of Wimbledon, making it through two rounds which included a win over the 20 seed. She will be in the middle of her next game when this gets posted, so hopefully this isn't a jinx, but she can be proud of her run regardless of what happens there. Only 23, England have another promising talent to follow.

Inactivity is quietly draining our economy, health system and communities. Sport England’s latest research is a wake-up call: equal access to sport and exercise could unlock £20 billion in savings and productivity gains for the UK. That’s not just a health issue, it’s an economic imperative. The data is compelling: For every £1 invested in grassroots sport, £4.38 is returned in savings and benefits. Grassroots sport contributes £36 billion annually to the economy and generates £14 billion in tax revenue. Yet inequalities persist. Those with disabilities, lower incomes, and black communities remain the least active. At New Reach, we believe the solution is clear: movement. Sport isn’t just about participation; it’s about inclusion, opportunity, and impact. Every mile run, every game played, every community initiative matters, not just for health, but for economic resilience and social cohesion. As the government prepares its Budget, the questions are: How do we make sport accessible for everyone? How do we turn participation into a national priority? Because the cost of doing nothing is too high. At New Reach, we help brands, rights holders, and organisations turn this challenge into opportunity. Through strategic PR, creative campaigns, and partnerships, we amplify the benefits of sport - driving participation, tackling inequalities, and delivering measurable impact for communities and the economy.
