History makers, move makers and….. beer makers? This TOTW has it all.

Bonus points to anyone that can guess Sam’s favourite sport based on the past few weeks’ picks!

Dan Pembroke

Paralympic champion and master brewer

Dan is cool, that’s one of the many reasons why I have picked him this week. BBC Sport’s Katie Falkingham shone a light on Dan’s incredible achievements. Foremost, he’s a two-time Paralympic and world champion in the F13 javelin – for athletes with a visual impairment. On top of his amazing sporting feats, he’s brewing beer too. After winning gold in Paris, he started working with a craft brewery to commercialise his products.

Diego Gomez

Brighton midfielder

The Paraguayan scored four goals, including a first half hat trick, for the Seagulls in their Carabao Cup tie at Barnsley. The third goal, however, deserves a nomination all on its own. A volley from nearly 40 yards out that was struck perfectly to bend away from the keeper and into the net. Hang it in the Louvre.

Aitana Bonmati

Three time Ballon d’Or winner

Aitana Bonmati became the first women’s footballer to win the ballon d’Or three times after a fantastic season at FC Barcelona. The Spanish midfield maestro, who was awarded the trophy by none other than Andres Iniesta, won this trophy off the back of a season that saw her score the winner in the Euro’s final, the domestic treble and reach the champions league final.

Nike & Spotify

Using music to get girls moving

Nike and Spotify have unveiled “Make Moves” – a campaign to inspire girls to move to one song every day. The campaign is supported by leading athletes and artists globally who are aiming to get girls moving more. A 2024 WHO study found that 85% of teen girls globally aren’t meeting the recommended guidelines for physical activity.

Inactivity is quietly draining our economy, health system and communities. Sport England’s latest research is a wake-up call: equal access to sport and exercise could unlock £20 billion in savings and productivity gains for the UK. That’s not just a health issue, it’s an economic imperative. The data is compelling: For every £1 invested in grassroots sport, £4.38 is returned in savings and benefits. Grassroots sport contributes £36 billion annually to the economy and generates £14 billion in tax revenue. Yet inequalities persist. Those with disabilities, lower incomes, and black communities remain the least active. At New Reach, we believe the solution is clear: movement. Sport isn’t just about participation; it’s about inclusion, opportunity, and impact. Every mile run, every game played, every community initiative matters, not just for health, but for economic resilience and social cohesion. As the government prepares its Budget, the questions are: How do we make sport accessible for everyone? How do we turn participation into a national priority? Because the cost of doing nothing is too high. At New Reach, we help brands, rights holders, and organisations turn this challenge into opportunity. Through strategic PR, creative campaigns, and partnerships, we amplify the benefits of sport - driving participation, tackling inequalities, and delivering measurable impact for communities and the economy.
